Your ventilation system is effective at minimising odours and particles from the kitchen, however regular maintenance and cleaning is required to ensure its optimum performance and safety.
Routine cleaning and maintenance is VERY important.
Whilst your canopies may look clean on the outside, there may be dirt and dangers lurking within. Grease, oil and grime can accumulate inside the canopy and ductwork. Overtime, this grease and dirt can build up and effect the operation of your system, as well as create dangerous fire hazards; grease is an excellent fuel source.
How often do I need to clean my system?
The frequency of cleaning will depend upon the ventilation unit, the cooking processes and the frequency and duration of cooking.
We recommend the following schedule as a MINIMUM frequency:
EXHAUST CANOPY
The external and internal surface of the unit should be cleaned weekly.
FILTERS
The filters should be cleaned on a weekly basis.
DUCTWORK
Cleaning should be undertaken every 6-12 months. NOTE: Some insurers require cleaning on a specified basis. Ensure that you review your insurance policy to meet the requirements.
FANS
Cleaning should be undertaken every 6-12 months.
MAKE UP AIR SYSTEM
Cleaning of hood internal surfaces should be undertaken on a weekly basis.
Some of the cleaning can be performed by the operators/staff, however the more difficult areas, such as ductwork, fan and motors, do require specialist tradespersons.
The above schedule is a guide only. We provide project-specific maintenance manuals at the completion of the works, when requested.
